A copyeditor’s job is to make corrections and edits for clarity, flow, and stylistic conventions.
Copyediting consists of all of the following:
Eliminating unnecessary words and phrases
Replacing jargon with plain language
Improve syntax, usage, parallel construction, pronoun references, and other matters of clarity
Flags ambiguous or factually incorrect statements (especially important for nonfiction)
Correcting for errors including misspellings, typos, and errors in punctuation, including but not limited to commas, dashes, semicolons, and quotation marks
